Challenge 8: Surprise Calls and Visits

Hey Chase,

Sorry this is going up late. I was struggling with my computer last night and feeling lazy. My week was busy but good. I had back to back parties that I was planning. On Thursday my friends from church came over to my apartment for an early Christmas party before everything gets really busy. It was low key. I made Mom’s Buffalo Chicken Dip, we talked, put up my tree that you guys brought me, and watched the movie Noele. It was not very good. I would not recommend watching it.

On Friday night we had our staff holiday party. I was on the planning committee and we went with a disco theme! It went so well!! I was not sure if people would get into it or not but almost everyone dressed up and participated in our activities. At one part during the night one of the women on the committee who used to be a dancer taught us the Hustle. The whole dance floor was full! We also had games and a make your own pet rock station. It was funny seeing our Director of Buildings and Grounds hot gluing art supplies onto a rock haha. He won the best in show contest for the pet rocks actually.IMG_0819

The rest of my week was pretty uneventful. Mostly just preparing for my parties. Jen Chase (our cousin in Hudson) surprised me and showed up at my church on Sunday. It was a really fun surprise. One of those moments where you see someone who is out of place. Like seeing a teacher outside of school. It was odd seeing her in my ‘territory’ instead of me going to hers. I went out to lunch with her afterwards.

And Parker stayed with me! I knew he was coming but it was still a nice change from the normal. I only got to see him for a very brief time but it was still nice. All of his friends were very polite and a pleasure to have.

I planned to call someone for this challenge but I was unsure who I wanted to call. I unfortunately have quite a few friends I have not talked to in awhile. It is definitely one of the really sad things about graduating from college. Is everyone becomes scattered all over the country/world. I also just have not felt like calling many people lately. I don’t really have anything positive or exciting share.

Post PicWith the party prep I did not have time to call anyone during the week. But on Saturday I got a surprise call from one of my good friends from college. My friend Mike Maher who is currently in Texas for Graduate School for Organic Chemistry. He started his call by saying “Surprise Call” haha. And I thought perfect you are fulfilling my challenge. I had seen him recently, very briefly the day after Thanksgiving. I went with my friend Amy to take his engagement pictures. But I have not actually talked to him in since September. It was great to catch up. I really miss him. We used to have tea parties together at Carthage when we need a break from school. Do you remember when I searched for a tea set at Goodwill? That was for Mike.

I also reached out to Jenn Ewan and talked to her on Sunday. We used to talk every Sunday but we both have been busy lately and have not talked since September either. It was very nice to touch base with both of them.

I am looking forward to your challenge this week. I have not done any yoga since my class stopped.

I hope you have a great week! I love you!!

Alex
