Hey Alex!
Sorry that I’m getting this post up so late. The last week before Winter Break was really busy between midterm projects and work. For my classes, I had to plan and teach a lesson to my peers, prepare for a midterm exam, read a ton of Richard Wright’s Native Son (which is an awesome book if you’re looking for something depressing and eye-opening), and write a couple reflections. I also had a lot of work in the Reading and Writing center that week since I am a writing fellow this term and was doing individual meetings with half of a class.
Along with keeping me from getting my post up, the workload also made me not as successful at doing yoga as I had hoped to be. Luckily, I did get to do it some days. My friend Rachel Park holds “11:00 yoga” at her house each weeknight, and I was able to make it to two of her yoga meetings. I also did yoga by myself a couple mornings and with Jessica that Friday to these videos: Morning Yoga for Flexibility and Morning Waking Up Yoga. Those two routines were pretty nice but the creator Tara Stiles goes really fast!
Anyway, the photo that I chose is not quite as intense as yours (your Warrior Two looks great!). I chose something calming from another part of my life: looking down at my planner when everything is crossed off! Man, that feels good. Whenever things start to feel overwhelming, I just flip back a couple pages in my planner and look at the completed list to remind myself that yes, it does all get done eventually.
Your posts’s title inspired me to include some Sanskrit as well. I first heard “namaste” at a Rock Island yoga studio I’ve attended a couple weeks for free Saturday classes. According to Yoga Journal, namaste “is an acknowledgement of the soul in one by the soul in another.” I really enjoy the idea that this word of greeting is much more than “hello,” but actually and acknowledgement and reminder each individual’s humanity.
Love you!
